About Therapy & Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral?

What should I expect at my first appointment?

What should I expect at my first appointment?

No, a referral is not mandatory.

However, if you wish to claim Medicare rebates to help cover the cost of sessions, you will need to obtain a referral from your GP and a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP).

What should I expect at my first appointment?

We understand that there may be anxiety and apprehension about attending your first appointment. Our Psychologists are welcoming, compassionate and will put your mind at ease.

At your first appointment, the Psychologist will review your consent form, intake form and any other necessary documentation you provide (GP referral, Mental Health Care Plan, other referral documents etc). Then the Psychologist will outline confidentiality and privacy (how data is stored and how your privacy will be protected), as well as its limitations.

After the administrative tasks are completed, the Psychologist will ask you questions about why you have presented to the clinic, and then gather information about your life and the symptoms you are experiencing. Furthermore, some assessment tools (questionnaires) will be administered. These are likely to be a multiple choice format, and there are no right or wrong answers.

Once the Psychologist has gathered all the necessary information, they will discuss your therapy goals, commence formulating a treatment plan, and will give you feedback about the direction of therapy. The Psychologist will ensure you feel comfortable with the plan and ensure that the interaction is centred around your individual needs.

DVA (Department of Veteran Affairs Clients) Fees

Free mental health care for veterans

Free mental health care means you do not have to pay for your mental health treatment. You do not need to prove that your ADF service caused these conditions. We cover the cost through Non-Liability Health Care (NLHC).

Who is eligible?

Current and former full-time members of the ADF can get free mental health treatment. This includes reservists who have at least one day of continuous full-time service (CFTS).

To get free treatment, you need to have a Veteran White Card that covers mental health.  Veteran Gold Card holders are already eligible for mental health treatment.

Simply speak to your GP and request a referral to Eve Psychology, present your Gold or White card and book your appointment.

Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) fees

Your fees will be covered by your employer's EAP service.

How long are therapy sessions?

Initial appointment

Initial appointments take 50 minutes, and are slightly dearer to allow for screening and gathering of relevant information.

Regular sessions

Ongoing appointments are 50 minutes.
